WHAT IS HYPNOSIS?

Hypnosis is one of the most powerful methods available today that makes it possible for an individual to erase negativities and limitations and to transform them into positive learning experiences that create personal growth.

Hypnosis, according to Wikipedia, is defined as “ a wakeful state of focused attention and heightened suggestibility, with diminished peripheral awareness.” It is an altered state of consciousness, involving increased mental and physical relaxation and selective perception, a special process in which one reaches their desires by incorporating special techniques of concentrating fully on what is relevant to his task and at the same time temporarily blocking out mind chatter and everything else.

In the olden days, Hypnosis was available only to the wealthy and upper echelon of society. Today Hypnosis is becoming more and more popular, with its many applications, and is rapidly emerging as a highly effective science in empowering and motivating people, helping in solving problems and challenges, and as a valuable adjunct to standard medical care. When Hypnosis is used, there are no side effects or contraindications and results are rapid and cost effective.

The subconscious mind is the seat of all memory. All events in our lives, whether they be positive or negative are buried in the subconscious mind. Through the use of hypnosis, the client can uncover, comprehend and erase the dis-ease, and negative effects they experience physically, psychologically and emotionally, as a result of the old, buried and often misunderstood, inaccurate information stored in the subconscious mind.

Beneficial visualizations, thoughts and images experienced during hypnosis, are created specifically to erase the negativities and to help reach the clients desired results. Suggestions and visualizations are accepted by the subconscious mind, as though they actually happened. “WHAT THE MIND CAN CONCEIVE AND BELIEVE, THE BODY WILL ACHIEVE.”

We all experience the beneficial effects of being in a hypnotic trance state daily. Being in a trance or hypnotic state is so normal to us all, that we often do not realize that we have drifted into this natural beneficial state. Have you ever driven your car to work or to an appointment, only to realize that you have safely arrived at your destination, however you don’t remember passing point A and point B? You were in a hypnotic trance state. You were so deep in thought that your subconscious mind took over and directed you to your destination and at the same time, kept you totally safe, while allowing you to focus on what was on your mind at that particular time.

We are all born with the ability to visualize, imagine and enter into trance. As children we naturally slip in and out of fantasy and create our own make-believe friends, playmates and situations. Studies have shown that young children, in the past, had often been ridiculed when they discussed their little imagined friends. As a result, they began to ignore and block out their wonderful imaginative abilities. Through hypnosis, we can once again recapture and experience the joy, the laughter, the youthful feelings and "j’oi de vivre" with which we were born.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AT MY HYPNOSIS SESSION?

Prior to the session, a questionnaire is provided to help the hypnotist better understand the client’s desires, concerns, likes and dislikes, in attempts to help provide the best results possible.

The first session begins with an explanation of what hypnosis is, how it works and what to expect during and after the session.

This is followed by a guided relaxation technique, chosen specifically for the individual client, which leads him into the hypnotic trance. A trance is a natural state occurring whenever ones attention is totally focused, either internally, such as when meditating, thinking or daydreaming, or externally, when concentrating fully while driving, or on a movie, a task, a book or listening to a lecture. Ones attention is narrowly focused when in trance, so that other environmental outside stimuli are temporarily blocked out of conscious awareness. During trance, desired suggestions and post hypnotic cues are installed in the subconscious mind, to help the client achieve goals.

Once the client emerges from the hypnotic state, the suggestions and post hypnotic cues provided during the trance state are reviewed and any questions and reactions of the client are discussed. The client is instructed in the use of self-hypnosis and is encouraged to practice daily, preferably for twenty one days, since studies have shown that it takes twenty-one days to make a habit and twenty-one days to break a habit. Because the hypnotist is merely a guide and all hypnosis is self-hypnosis, it is the client’s responsibility to use his or her own newly learned abilities of concentration, relaxation, visualization and imagination to produce rapid desired results.

How Does Hypnosis Work?

Our brain is made of two parts, the conscious and the subconscious. The subconscious is the seat of all memory. Everything that happens during our lives is stored in the subconscious mind. In addition, genetic messages, social and religious learning and observations are also stored in the subconscious mind.

The subconscious does not analyze nor question. Everything that enters is accepted in the literal sense. Misunderstood memories and traumatic events can be buried or concealed in the subconscious. The subconscious mind is non-judgmental. The conscious mind however is judgmental. This is the part of the brain that tells us we are not good, “you can’t do that”, “you’ll never amount to anything.”

During the hypnosis session the hypnotist, through the use of various methods, temporarily puts a halt to the conscious minds busy chatter, by putting it to rest. Without the interruption of the conscious mind the client is able to be guided to uncover the buried learning or information that may be the cause of dis-ease or may be holding the client back from accomplishing their goals. The subconscious is then guided to make the necessary changes desired by the client, by removing stresses, negative attitudes, anxieties and damaging habits or transforming them into a positive learning experience or lesson, thereby creating the changes leading to the end result requested by the client.

The most difficult puzzle ever...

There is the ISIS, called the most difficult puzzle ever. It sure had put many minds and brains to test, but here is something that’ll put the two halves of your brain confronting head-on for supremacy?

Asking your witty bit to decide which half of it was more dominating, helping you figure out things, and did you always figure them out correctly. It is the test of the Right brain with the Left brain, and it’s time to concentrate, not on the lady, but her movement, that’s gonna decide the rest. If you see her moving clockwise, then you’re using the creative side of your brain, that is the Right. Whereas, if you see her move anti-clockwise, then you’re using the logical part of your brain, that is the Left.

My first impression of the dancer was that it is moving anti-clockwise, and that’s how most of you would see it too. However, if you try and focus, who knows you may see it move clockwise, if you do, please let us know, by leaving your experiences in the comment section.
